Hands Up

If we have ever had a conversation about things that are out of our control, you have likely heard me say to buckle up, put your hands in the air, and enjoy the ride. I don’t say this flippantly. Rather, I say this fully acknowledging what is within my control and what is not.

Today was one of those days. If I haven’t already established this, I’m not a fan of medical procedures. I was scheduled for a lumbar puncture today. On the heels of my Relax entry and a great night’s sleep, I was feeling as ready as possible. Then, the procedure was postponed until tomorrow. Fine. I was ready. But, more time to prep works for me.

As I think about the curve balls that are thrown at me in this process, I am reminded of my own words to put my hands in the air and enjoy the ride. Core to anyone’s ability to do so, is to remember that everything is actually going to be ok. After all, we wouldn’t actually get on the roller coaster if we thought it wasn’t safe.

I am operating for the belief that ultimately, everything is going to be ok. God is in control. Therefore, whatever He deems best is what will happen. And, therefore, I can put my hands in the air and enjoy the ride.

I hope that each of you can find similar peace in your own roller coasters of life. It isn’t natural. Nor is it easy. But, with God, it is possible.

“But Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” Matt 19:26
