Start Early

Keeping up with a daily blog is not as easy as I thought it might be. I have no shortage of topics or musings. The challenge is actually in taking the time to write them down in a manner that is cathartic for me and hopefully beneficial to you as well. If it were up to me alone, today’s entry would simply be - Start Early.

I begin each day with a series of mental goals. Most of them are simple goals to keep my mind in the fight. As you can imagine, the routine here gets rather boring and can, in and of itself, become a challenge to maintaining a positive outlook. So, I break the day down into manageable timeframes and events and set goals with each one. My most tangible goal for each day includes the number of steps I intend to get for the day.

As true as the adage that the early bird gets the worm, if you start early you are more likely to accomplish your goals. So, I’ve learned to hit to the step goal early in the day. Often, I hit it just after breakfast. I tire rather quickly and trying to get in more steps in the afternoon is proving to be more and more difficult. So again, I start early.

The lesson is applicable to most any goal or initiative. If you want something bad enough, then you get started. I’m not aware of any guy liking a girl and deciding to chase her tomorrow. Or, a water leak that is damaging your house, and you say you’ll start tomorrow. If there is something that you need to do, start early.

Spiritually, there is no difference. It is easy to think that we can start tomorrow because God is always there, right? The reality is that it is often more difficult to start tomorrow. The longer you wait, the more time you put between your goal and your action. It silently programs your mind and actions. Please don’t wait. Take a moment, say the prayer you need to say, confess what you need to confess, and ask the Lord whatever it is you need to ask. Whatever you do, Start Early. You won’t regret it.

”Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with Me.” Rev 3:20
